Mumbai ANC Arrests Wanted Accused, Seizes Codeine Cough Syrup and Heroin Worth Rs 68.27 Lakh
Mumbai Crime Branch's ANC arrested a wanted accused in Pydhonie and seized 367 codeine cough syrup bottles worth Rs 3.67 lakh. In a separate Versova operation, two accused were arrested with heroin worth Rs 64.6 lakh.
The accused was arrested on September 3 at around 10.50 pm from an open space near Mochi Chawl, Israel Mohalla, Masjid Bunder Road, Pydhonie.
The action followed an investigation into Crime No. 67/2026, registered under relevant Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. According to the police, the case was initially registered on July 17 after the Azad Maidan Unit detained a person acting suspiciously during an anti-narcotics operation.
A search allegedly led to the recovery of 157 bottles of codeine phosphate-mixed cough syrup, following which the accused was arrested. During the subsequent investigation, police found that the accused had allegedly been smuggling the cough syrup in and around Pydhonie for some time.
Police said a detailed and technical investigation was carried out to trace the supply and distribution network linked to the narcotic substance. Based on the investigation, the ANC traced the wanted accused named in the case.
A total of 367 bottles of codeine phosphate-mixed cough syrup were allegedly recovered from his possession and seized under a panchnama. The accused was subsequently arrested in connection with the case.
In a separate incident, the ANC of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested two people in Versova, Andheri West, for allegedly possessing and selling heroin, and seized 323 grams of the narcotic substance worth Rs 64.6 lakh.
The action was carried out by the ANC's Kandivali Unit on Friday following a tip-off from secret informants. The accused were arrested during the operation and booked under relevant Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
According to the police, 167 grams of heroin worth around Rs 33.4 lakh was recovered from the sling bag of one accused. The second accused was allegedly found carrying 156 grams of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 31.2 lakh, in a sling bag.
The total seizure amounted to 323 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs 64.6 lakh. Police also seized an electronic weighing scale, sandbags, mixer utensils, a halogen bulb and two mobile phones from the accused.
The two ANC operations resulted in the seizure of codeine phosphate-mixed cough syrup and heroin, with the arrests and recoveries forming part of investigations under the NDPS Act, 1985.
